What a day for Boyne Thunder

This year Mother Nature was very kind with warm temps and calm waters

Speed, excitement and smiles returned to northern Michigan for the seventh annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run on July 9 and 10, 2010 in Boyne City.

This unique boating exhibition showcased 32 high performance boats, some sporting several thousand horsepower and speeds of more than 160 miles per hour, that enjoyed a near perfect day on Lake Charlevoix and Lake Michigan. The temperatures were in the low 80s, the wind was calm and the water on Lake Michigan was smooth. It was a perfect day to be on the water.

Starting in Boyne City, boaters cruised Lake Charlevoix to Round Lake and then made their way out to the wide-open waters of Lake Michigan on their 90-mile excursion. Card stops during the boaters’ journey across gorgeous Lake Michigan included Harbor Springs, Beaver Island and Bay Harbor. The cards were turned in at the end of the run and played after Saturday evening’s dinner.

Winning the top hands were John Frolich and Mike Sinacola and each of them generously donated their winnings back to the event.

Boyne Thunder is a fund-raising event for Camp Quality, a non-profit organization that provides special experiences and support for children with cancer and their families. With more than $160,000 raised for Camp Quality since the event’s inception, Boyne Thunder has become a staple of the community that people look forward to every year.

The pairing of Boyne Thunder with Camp Quality is truly what makes this event special. The goal of Camp Quality is to allow children with cancer to be children again, facilitate experiences and friendships and provide confidence for these special children and their families in a way that matters. Through donations like the one being made by Boyne Thunder, Camp Quality is able to provide these things.
